Today I was at the gym doing my abdominal workout when a long time friend walked in. We haven’t seen each other for a while due to different work schedules. So we go to the gym at different times. Luckily, today she had the day off so she came in early and we got to chat for a little bit.
She told me she was trying to lose weight and sexy for the summer but no matter how hard she worked out and do cardio, the weight just wouldn’t go down.
So I asked here: How’s You Diet?
She replied, I’m eating pretty healthy and I am even using the flat tummy tea detox on the weekends too!
Okay great I said. Then I asked, how much calories are you consuming on a daily basis?
This is where her jaws dropped. She had no clue how much calories she was consuming everyday. Now as I preach on my blog, if you want to lose fat and get in shape, you MUST consume less calories than you are burning everyday. In doing so, your body has no other option than to resort to the stored fat for energy.
Unfortunately, like my friend a lot of persons are making the same mistake. You see, eating healthy is one thing but unless you create that necessary calorie deficit, you not lose the excess pounds. Even worse, depending on how much you eat, you could possibly gain weight even though you are ‘eating healthy’.
So What Can You Do To NOT Fail Your Weight Loss Goal?
The first thing you need to do is to ensure that you have an idea of how much calories you should eat on a daily basis. Since you are not professional athlete doing fitness shows, you don’t have to get crazy accurate with every gram of food you need to eat. So a rule of thumb is to multiply your body weight by 11 to ensure that you are in a calorie deficit.
So if you weigh say 150 pounds, your daily calorie intake to lose weight would be 150 x 11 = 1650 calories. If you find you are not losing weight fast enough, you can multiply by 10 instead but you don’t want to go any lower. Any lower and you’ll be depriving your body of nutrients that you need from food. Worse case scenario, you may and will need to up the intensity on your workouts in the gym.
If you are not losing weight on any fitness plan, chances are your diet is not dialed in. The first thing you need to do is to get your daily calorie requirements and track the food you eat daily to ensure that you hit your numbers. Some days you will go over or under. The important thing is to that consistent and you will see results.
